Mayor’s Christmas Appeal
Despite the effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our city, across the country and around the world, we still have a lot to celebrate as we wrap up 2020 here in North Queensland.
This year has highlighted the strength and resilience of those around us. It also shines a light on the importance of looking after those in our community who are doing it tough. That is why I encourage you to support our local community organisations and charities as part of the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
There is nothing like the festive season to bring everybody together, and while Christmas should be a joyful time for everyone, for some it can be a particularly difficult and lonely time. This year there are likely to be more people than ever who are struggling to make ends meet during the COVID-19 global pandemic and I hope that as a community we can work together to ensure we support those who need a hand.
The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal has been spreading festive hope and joy throughout Townsville for more than 25 years, helping thousands of families and individuals enjoy that special day with the help of our amazing volunteers from a number of local charities.
At Council we’ve done what we can to support the community through a range of initiatives focussed on reducing the impact of COVID-19. For those in the community in a position to help, I encourage you to make a donation to one of the many community organisations throughout the city. As Christmas approaches so too does the wet season. Stay safe this festive season and be prepared for whatever the weather may bring. Be Disaster Ready and check Townsville City Council’s Emergency Management Dashboard to stay up to date with everything disaster related.
I sincerely wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
